HAPPY ‘MERICA DAY!

The beach… Or the mountains. Really dependent on the weather.

But guess where I ran this morning… and yes, you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right or wrong.

Sam and I geared up in our PRO Compression and Brooks PureCadence before we set off. Just walking through the sand sucked. And my knee was killin’ me. Joy, right?

When we started off running it was super hard. We ended up running right along the water, where the more compact sand was. Sam and I ended up splitting up because I kept stopping to look at rocks/ pick up glass (… oohhhh shiny things…).

Sam did her workout, while I took my shoes off to go look for more rocks play in the water.

It took me almost half and hour before I caught up to my mom who was looking for glass as well. We slowly walked back to where our towels and chairs were set up, while we stared at the ground… still lookin’.

When we got home, I went downstairs to start my own CrossFit workout.

By the end of the WOD, I was DRENCHED in sweat. Don’t believe me? Fine. I took a yucky selfieeee (sorry, I have to exaggerate the e in a Valley Girl accent) for all of you none-believers.

Now we are about to party until the break of day to celebrate ‘Merica. Me and like 30 some of my closest friends whom I’ve never met. WHOO!

Triple Workout Monday! 

I ran with Sam for 2.86mi and did 2 rounds of…

1 Min Jump Rope, 25 Squats, 15 Jumping Jacks, 10 Pushups, 30sec of mountain climbers, 10 push-ups, 25 crunches, 1 min butt kicks, 1 min bicep curls w/ static lunge, 15 jumping jacks, 1 min plank, 1 min plank ups, 30 sec dance sesh, 1 min military presses w/ front kick, 30 sec side shoulder raises, 30 sec front shoulder raises, 25 squats, 30sec burpees, 15 tricep dips, 30 sec bicycle crunches, 1 min plank

We went running on this beautiful (and muddy) trail close to the house!

After we got home, I got ready for workout round 2!

I did, 100 pushups followed by a 2 min rest, then three rounds of 20 jumping jacks, burpees, and squats.. ow.. then I did 60 sit ups at a comfortable pace.

The rest of the afternoon (after a long shower) consisted of shopping at the Lighthouse Place in Michigan City, IN. It was a really cool outlet mall with TONS of shops. I tried my best to stay away from the fitness stores (because that’s all I EVER shop for) and stuck to buying “normal people” clothes… I must say, I’m not a fan.

I’m actually really BAD at shopping. Like, really bad. I get overwhelmed with how much there is in stores. And when I try stuff on, I never like ANY of it because I would rather be in sweats.. or comfy stuff.

Or, while I’m in the dressing room, I just think about how hungry I am at the moment (like always.)

What was worse was that I really didn’t eat lunch. I had my breakfast after 10, so when lunch rolled around I was not in the mood for anything.

… the struggle.

On the bright side, my baby cousin Nicole won the cutest and most happiest baby alive.

I also went running in there… TWICE.

I ran 5 miles with Team in Training, and then when I got home I ran 3-4 miles with Lela… at 10:20pm!

My full marathon is in San Diego next weekend! Can someone say OH MY GOSH.

And guess how many miles I’ve gotten in the past week and a half? Close to zero. Yeah. Not good.

I know when it comes to marathon time, I will be okay. Just kinda freakin’ out right now. No big deal. 😦

I guess I’m pretty pumped as well. I mean, I get to spend almost 3 days in Cali. I’ve never been to Cali, so it’s going to be PERFECT! I leave Thursday, stay the night in Wichita, then fly out Friday morning!

I am taking my mom and sister with me. Miranda is taking her momma! We will probably go to the beach, go shopping, and just explore San Diego!

The race is on Sunday. I’ve studied the course and guess what… I GET TO RUN ON THE BEACH! Hopefully it does not require me to run in the sand, or else I will be walking that section.

I guess the headliner for the race is the 80’s band the Psychedelic Furs… Anybody heard of them? No? Okay. Well I had to research them and this is what I found:

You know what? It’s going to be epic. And who knows, I might pass out by the time I cross the finish line.. So I might be in a hospital while the concert is going on.

Arm Day

I learned many things after last week’s 16 miler. And so this week, I decided to put those lessons to good use for my long run on Sunday. I needed to get in 18 miles, so I sure as heck didn’t want to be miserable.

Lesson Number 1:

I waited until 5:15pm to hit the road. By then it was in the low 60’s, the sun was still shining, and there was a slight but not overpowering breeze. This is a great lesson from last week, because the mistake I made last week was going running at 10 am: the beginning of the hottest part in the day (10-3).

Lesson Number 2:

Sunscreen. Holy moly did I layer it up. I looked like a grease-ball, but heck. I was protected against UV Radiation. My mistake from last week was that I put on NO sunscreen. Lesson learned, lesson learned.

Lesson Number 3:

I planned my route a little bit better this time. I made sure to stay in shaded parts of town, and I planned my route to run by buildings I knew would have water for me to fill up.

Lesson Number 4:

Deodorant. And not just under the sweet-smelling pits. After my skirt fiasco last week, I decided to put some deodorant on to prevent chaffing. Old-school running tip. So for all of you dealing with this prob, there is a quick fix! I also put a lot of deodorant in places where my clothing rubbed against my skin – best idea EVER.

Lesson Number 5:

I snap chatted some of my favorite peeps right after I finished. Immediate feedback and support!

Mistakes made, lessons learned. That’s the way life goes.

HAPPY 650th MILE THIS YEAR!

This past weekend I traveled to KC for a fun TOC Senior Trip! We left early Saturday morning (I have a really bad story about this), and got home around 3:15pm Sunday!

Okay, bad story about leaving early on Saturday. 

So on Friday night I was in bed before 10. I know for a FACT I set my alarm for 5am. Guess what… It was 6:10 before I woke up on my own and realized that everyone had been waiting on me for 20 minutes already. I call Tamie, tell her I’m rushing, and I get out to the car by 6:20. (We were supposed to leave at 6… whoops.)

Well Tamie tried calling me, but my phone goes on this stupid mode where it turns off all notifications/ phone calls at 10pm and doesn’t turn back on until 7am the next morning. (Tamie had to help me take it off… I’m not good with technology.)

Okay. And that’s the end of my bad story.

Okay. Now I’m sure that is enough pictures to last you a lifetime.

Tonight we had a Honors Banquet (mainly for seniors) to recognize intellectual/ leadership students! I was recognized for general things. I wish I was awarded for something in the community a little bit more, but hey. What can I do about it? I mean, sure I’m disappointed, but life will move on. I will just have to move on with it.

Tomorrow I will do a recap of my 18 miler I ran last night! WHOO HAPPY 18!
