5mi – 2mi

Arm Day

I learned many things after last week’s 16 miler. And so this week, I decided to put those lessons to good use for my long run on Sunday. I needed to get in 18 miles, so I sure as heck didn’t want to be miserable.

Lesson Number 1:

I waited until 5:15pm to hit the road. By then it was in the low 60’s, the sun was still shining, and there was a slight but not overpowering breeze. This is a great lesson from last week, because the mistake I made last week was going running at 10 am: the beginning of the hottest part in the day (10-3).

Lesson Number 2:

Sunscreen. Holy moly did I layer it up. I looked like a grease-ball, but heck. I was protected against UV Radiation. My mistake from last week was that I put on NO sunscreen. Lesson learned, lesson learned.

Lesson Number 3:

I planned my route a little bit better this time. I made sure to stay in shaded parts of town, and I planned my route to run by buildings I knew would have water for me to fill up.

The Route

The Route

Lesson Number 4:

Deodorant. And not just under the sweet-smelling pits. After my skirt fiasco last week, I decided to put some deodorant on to prevent chaffing. Old-school running tip. So for all of you dealing with this prob, there is a quick fix! I also put a lot of deodorant in places where my clothing rubbed against my skin – best idea EVER.

Lesson Number 5:

I snap chatted some of my favorite peeps right after I finished. Immediate feedback and support!

Mistakes made, lessons learned. That’s the way life goes.

Alright guys. As you may have noticed, I’m not blogging near as much! This is because graduation is drawing near, I’m beginning to work for my summer job, and I just have a million things going on from day to day. So PLEASE stick with me these next couple weeks. And PLEASE keep reading!

This weekend I will be traveling to Kansas City with my fellow Senior TOC Member, Delisa; our activities director, Tamie; and the athletic office’s secretary, Traci! So chances are, no blog tomorrow, but on Sunday for sure! I’ll be getting in an 18 miler Sunday night… Wish me luck!

So because I keep missing days of blogging with my schedule, I decided to do a Friday Phone-Dump.

Now don’t get the wrong idea here, I got this off of Skinny Runner. I have a ton of pictures on my phone from the past 3 days that I’ve thought “Oh this would be GREAT to include in my blog!” And so, since there are so many pictures, I’m just going to lay em all on you right now.

Enjoy today’s dump! Phone dump that is. What were you thinking?

It snowed yesterday. That's right. May 2... and snow.

This dog started running with Keena and I today. Driver's probably thought it was my dog and that I was the worst dog owner EVER. It wouldn't let me touch it or else I would've handled the situation correctly! I tried to keep him on the sidewalk as much as possible.

HAPPY TWOSDAY!

It felt SO GOOD to get back to the gym to run. Besides the fact I forgot my phone at home this morning, so I had zero music/ entertainment throughout the school day. (I’m a senior. Some days we just don’t do much.)

A compliment I got today was from a fellow senior.

Him: “So what is thing running blog thing you are doing?”

…explain it to him…

Him: “If we had to place money on who would be the most successful in life out of this school, my money would be on you.”

I can’t even explain how accomplished I’ve felt all day after hearing that.

Tonight I went and applied for a job at our local Anytime Fitness. Probably the perfect job for me. After I applied, I went BACK to the high school to run for the second time today! It was a pretty solid run. Started out with some gnawing knee pain, but then it went away after the first mile. I helped resolve some prom issues (Juniors, for real. You need to go help with prom setup. It’s a lot of work and there is always something that needs to be done. Been there done that.) I also got to race Kennedy’s (one of my most favoritest people ever) little brother. I won… totally something to be proud of. Beating a younger kid.

Now I want to chat about some really cool things happening here.

Ever heard of Charity Miles? Well, you should probably get on that. They have just currently added the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to their list of 20 different charities, and being a Team in Training Member, I am all over that charity!

– Charity Miles is a free iPhone/Android app that enables people to earn money for charity when they walk, run or bike.
– It’s easy to use, download the app from your phone’s app store, choose LLS and press start at the onset of any outdoor exercise.
– Bikers earn 10ยข per mile; walkers and runners earn 25ยข per mile
o The program uses your phone’s GPS to measure your distance
o The app will ask for your permission to use GPS
o The app does not work indoors

This morning I went to the running track to run with Lela! I ran 5.5 miles before school started.

Today’s PRO Compression/ Brooks PureCadence Running Shoes!

Weights was SO HARD. I don’t know what it was, but I was sweating and sucking air like crazy! Maybe its because I’m not very strong in my arms. I’m all leg power right here.

I managed to get in about 2 miles during weights, making my mileage 7.5 miles.

Now you say,

“How did you get 8 miles? And what the heck is Threesday? I thought it was called ‘Twosday!'”

Well, let me tell you, you awesome son-of-gun you.

During OP I went BACK into the gym and ran a little over half a mile… Whoa.

One thing you need to know about me, is that I am a numbers girl. I like things to be rounded to a whole number. So the whole 7.5 was driving me crazy. I don’t know why, maybe it’s my own little OCD side coming out. No shame.

I know sometimes I run miles with a decimal, but most of the time I run until its a whole number.

Well, there you go. A side of me you never knew before.

I’m currently in a suburban with the Activities Director of our school, Tamie! We are on our way to go cheer on the Lady Demons Soccer team in Wichita! From there we are headed to Topeka for a Kansas State High School Activities Association meeting that will happen all day tomorrow. Whoo!

Let me explain to you why I am going. Two years ago I was chosen out of all of the 6A high schools in the state of Kansas to represent all 6A schools in Kansas for this thing called the Student Advisory Team.

What I do is provide input on the good things/ bad things that KSHSAA does, create PSA’s that play on the radio, make essays that are sometimes published and showed at other KSHSAA meetings, and most importantly, get all of the old State Tournament shirts that they keep in storage. Can someone say “cut off?”

My really awesome Dodge City Demons Soccer shirt!

Well, I plan to go running tomorrow, so be expecting a little bit of a post tomorrow!

Ignore any grammatical errors you may find… Please. Chances are I probably won’t proofread this in order to save battery on my phone!

Oh yeah, and

Run on.

Happy Two-a-Day Twosday! Or as I like to call it, Twosday!

So today I had TWO Twosdays! I have gotten in miles today twice and have had two cheer tryout practices today! Guess who’s sore?!

(PICK ME! PICK ME!)

So on this lovely Twosday, I went to cheer this morning at about 6:15. I’m not a morning person. So I am sorry if I got cranky with anyone. All I wanted to do was crawl into bed and die for a few more hours… but then wake up and be okay and happy.

I tried to put on my excited face on for school. Yeah, so didn’t happen. My case of senioritis is getting horrible. Not motivation. At all…. the struggle.

I guess it’s a good thing that I get to go home straight after school! Hello Keena, nap time, and food!

Before cheer practice numero dos, I went to the running track in the gym to run a few laps.

Oh, but did I mention it was IMPOSSIBLE to get into the school? Because it was. Every. Single. Door. was locked. Even the ones that are supposed to be unlocked. So I drove around the school, parked ย by every single door, got out and walked to the door just to find out it was locked. Grr.

Luckily it pays to know some peeps and one of the sweetest coaches/ teachers at the school unlocked a door! Thank you thank you thank you!

That run… oh my yuck. I didn’t wear my PRO Compression socks while running yesterday and I didn’t wear them again this morning during Drill Team when we were working on a kick routine… So my calves were unbelievably sore. I struggled. Hardcore.

Cheer was great! The girls are really working their butts off. They hate me for making the dance so hard. Ah well. They’re good!

All of the girls who haven’t seen me in my PRO Compression gave me funny looks when I came strutting in with some bright pink, knee high socks.

Yeah Buddy, rollin' like a big-shot.

Yeah Buddy, rollin’ like a big-shot.

Ah well. I still worked it… LIKE A BOSS.

I got home and walked on the TM cause my legs hate me right now. So I still count that as a Two-A-Day… Although technically it’s not running.

Does anyone watch Pretty Little Liars?! Cause I’m watching it right now and I’m all like…

WHAT?!

WHAT?!

…Pearl and I are currently discussing it through Snap Chat. Cause we’re cool like that. Word up.

Okay. My mind is tired. I think I’ll watch PLL and cry.

Run on.
